Gently and naturally exfoliating your face is a crucial step to seeing glowing skin for years to come. However, exfoliation can seem very intimidating. You get the mental picture of scrubbing your skin till it’s raw, which although guiltily satisfying, almost always does much more damage than good! Many brushes and products are much too abrasive and cause small cuts to your delicate complexion, creating blemishes and irritation.
Knowing exfoliation was a key to eliminating congestion and dullness, I had to come up with a couple of easy at-home ways I could get the desired results with causing any damage.
So here are a few of my favourites, all focused on creating a fresh and youthful glow.
1. Grapefruit and Organic yogurt
High in anti-oxidants and natural fruit acids, grapefruit is a beauty for exfoliation. The lycopene and retinol in the grapefruit juice are perfect for fighting fine lines and wrinkles and rejuvenating skin. The yogurt is a staple for eliminating discoloration and dark spots.
Simply mix the juice of half of a red or pink grapefruit with organic yogurt to create a paste, apply for 15 minutes and rinse!
2. Lemon juice and full fat milk
This mask gives the one-two punch to dull skin and easily breaks down dead skin cells to reveal bright and youthful skin.
Combine 2 tbsp. full fat organic milk with 1 tbsp. of lemon juice. Allow to stand at room temperature for a couple hours and then apply to the face for 20 minutes. Rinse, cleanse and moisture!
3. Malic acid apple sauce peel
Fight the signs of aging and stimulate collagen production for a bright, youthful glow. Apple sauce and apple cider are rich in malic acid and Alpha Hydroxy Acid for a gentle solution to removing dullness causing dead skin cells.
Combine 1 tbsp. Apple cider vinegar, 2 tsp. lemon juice, 2 tbsp. applesauce, 1 tbsp. ground oats and 1 tsp. raw honey.
Apply for 15 minutes and then gently massage in circular motions before rinsing. Cleanse, tone and moisturize to reveal gorgeously smooth skin
4. Glycolic acid sugar peel
One of the fastest exfoliators and most successful at home facial rejuvenator. Simple sugars are combined for an amazingly effective skin resurfacing.
Mix juice of ½ a fresh lemon with 2 tbsp. each of raw organic sugar and raw honey. Ensure sugar is ground very finely.
Apply to skin and leave for 10 minutes. Rinse with warm water, cleanse, tone and moisturize! You’ll be amazing at the results.
With each treatment, ensure not to apply near the delicate area around eyes. Feel free to also apply to neck area. These quick and easy exfoliants deliver dramatic anti-aging results and keep your complexion looking youthful, hydrated and fresh for years to come!
